COMCAST Description

In 2014, Comcast debuted their CDN service. With their own CDN in place, Comcast can deliver a better experience to their already existing consumer base. Unique in the CDN landscape, we can label Comcast a B2C CDN service provider.

As the ISP, cable owner and CDN provider, Comcast is able to offer an excellent SLA and potentially lower pricing, when compared to 3rd party CDN providers who do not own the network they operate on.

The Comcast CDN is regional and offers PoPs within the US only. The CDN service is therefore not suited for businesses with a global userbase, unless it is combined with other CDN providers in a multi-CDN setup. Warpcache is a multi-CDN provider that offers the Comcast CDN in combination with others.

CDN77 Description

In 2011, CDN provider CDN77 was founded with the aim of building a CDN that was ‘transparent, fast and flexible’ and to make it suitable for developers. It was originally built on top of OnApp but since the end of 2014, they operate their own infrastructure.

The provider is headquartered in the United Kingdom in London, and have another office in Prague, Czech Republic.

On-boarding with CDN77 is quick and easy and can be done autonomously via the website. They offer a 14-day free trial, no creditcard required.

Since March 2016, CDN77 has implemented Google’s Brotli compression, an effective compression algorithm for common assets like CSS files, HTML and Javascript. Brotli is said to better reduce data size compared to GZIP by up to 40%.

CDN77’s customer portfolio includes CentOS, Gentoo, phpMyAdmin, Hubble Space Telescope, European Space Agency, R2 Games, Gajin, Rambler.ru, Victorinox, Scania.
