MIRROR IMAGE Description

Founded in 1997, Mirror Image Internet is a seasoned service provider with a large portfolio of web and hosting services. The company is principally owned by Xcelera Inc., and is headquartered in Massachusetts, US and has an European sales office in London.

The network map of Mirror Image is not made public on their website, and there is no information on the number of points-of-presence (PoPs). Based on performance comparisons, we think Mirror Image uses the Highwinds network, and add their own intelligence. Note that Mirror Image uses the term “Content Access Point (CAP) facilities” to refer to their PoPs.

Mirror Image Internet hold a variety of patents to protect its core technology. These concern Internet communication, web serving and the distributed selection of content servers.

The company offers features for video streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) through their miPUBLISHER platform. Large file download is also supported. Their control panel ClearVue Control Center includes real-time analytics and the necessary tooling to manage the CDN.

MICROSOFT AZURE Description

Microsoft’s cloud computing platform Microsoft Azure includes a CDN service in their offering. The platform was released in 2010, initially named Windows Azure and renamed to Microsoft Azure in 2014.

Azure is an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution, and next to a CDN they offer storage solutions, data management, compute and networking. Their IaaS solution is similar to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Compute Engine (GCE). Just like Google, Azure offers free credit to first-time users of the platform to help them get started.

The Azure CDN service uses the networks of Akamai and Edgecast, though it is fully integrated with the cloud platform and offered under the Azure brand. Because the CDN service is offered as a part of the larger Azure IaaS ecosystem, it is easy-to-use for businesses who already use the platform. Other CDNs can be used in combination with Azure products as well, for example with their storage solution.
