TATA COMMUNICATIONS Description

Tata Communications, a company of Indian multinational Tata Group, offers a CDN service with 400 points-of-presence (PoPs) on five continents, in 21 locations. Tata owns and operates an impressive network infrastructure, with their sub-terrestrial and sub-sea network spanning 700,000 kilometers - more than 17 times around the world. According to the company, 24% of the planet’s internet routes are on their network, which grants improved performance and flexibility.

In 2011, Tata Communications acquired BitGravity - a US-based CDN provider founded in 2006. BitGravity. The companies had been in a strategic alliance leading up to the acquisition, and the move was a logical next step for Tata Communications to improve its global CDN offering. Remnants of BitGravity can still be found, such as the Tata Communications CDN support portal.

Tata Communications offers a wide range of CDN features such as live streaming and video-on-demand (VOD), an out-of-the-box online video platform, site acceleration and software delivery. They also provide DDoS and security services, hosting, colocation and transit.

CDN clients of Tata Communications are, or have included NDTV, Quick Heal Technologies, Web18 (part of Network 18) and Nimbus Communications.

RACKSPACE Description

Texas-based cloud computing company Rackspace was founded in 1998 and is quite the household name. With their ‘Fanatical Support’ concept, the company distinguishes itself from its competitors by offering to focus on service and support rather than technology.

The core businesses of Rackspace are dedicated servers and cloud servers, though the company has a large portfolio with web services. Among others, the company offers website hosting, application migration, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Apps hosting, database and data analytics, email hosting and CDN services.
