NEW RELIC Description

San Francisco-based New Relic was founded by Lew Cirne in 2008, and provides an application performance monitoring (APM) SaaS platform. Since it’s foundation, New Relic has grown rapidly and besides APM now offers Mobile, Server, Browser and Synthetic monitoring. Their analytics platform Insights collects the data from these products and allows clients to gain better insights into the performance of their environment.

Customers of New Relic are, or have been FlightStats, Yellow Pages, Zendesk, StatusPage.io, Hautelook, Bleacher Report, Miniclip, Tapjoy, Zumba Fitness, Tableau and Move.

More clients of New Relic can be viewed on their website, which includes customer case studies.

The application performance data, and other data monitoring tools of New Relic can be used to control traffic routing within a multi-CDN solution. Based on their monitoring, traffic can be re-routed around under-performing servers, congested PoPs and other network issues.

New Relic is partnered with MaxCDN and Cedexis, demonstrating the relevance of their availability and server resource monitoring products within the CDN and web performance ecosystem.

Amazon ROUTE53 Description

Amazon Route53 is the DNS web service of Amazon Web Services (AWS). It’s part of the larger AWS ecosystem that also includes, among others:

  • Storage: S3, Glacier
  • CDN: Cloudfront
  • Networking: domain name registration, Traffic Flow
  • Databases: DynamoDB, SimpleDB, ElastiCache, Redshift, Kinesis
  • Application services: payments, email service, API gateway, transcoding, queue and notification services
  • Management: directory service, Elastic MapReduce, key management service
  • Deployment: CloudFormation, Elastic Beanstalk, CodeDeploy
  • Compute: Elastic Compute Cloud, Elastic MapReduce, Lambda

Route53 allows the routing of users both to other AWS services and to non-Amazon infrastructure. Management of the DNS and of other AWS services can be done via a graphical web interface.

Amazon’s Route53 Traffic Flow product enables clients to route traffic according to different preferences, such as Round Robin, latency based routing or Geo DNS. All types come with DNS failover.

Amazon provides a 100% available SLA for Route53, meaning that the company warrants that the service is up and running all the time, every month.
