SPEEDYRAILS Description

Speedyrails is a hosting provider specialised in Ruby on Rails sites. The Canadian company was founded in 2006 and has facilities in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Miami.

Next to a variety of solutions such as managed hosting, Ruby on Rails hosting, Plesk hosting, private cloud and dedicated servers, Speedyrails also offers a CDN. The company is an Edgecast (Verizon Digital Media Services) reseller, and their pricing is available on the website. The CDN is supplied as a standalone service, and customisation options are available in terms of CDN add-ons and point-of-presence (PoP) coverage.

Verizon also has their own DNS service named Route, which is offered via Speedyrails. Pricing for both the CDN options and DNS are included in the overview below.

Speedyrails has integrated New Relic into their control panel. Clients can easily use the New Relic Ruby Performance Management (RPM) to monitor their apps deployed with Speedyrails. New Relic Bronze subscriptions are available to all Speedyrails clients, for free.

At the time of writing, Speedyrails has clients in 415 cities around the world. Speedyrails customers include, or have included Mobile Fringe, Lynx, PetalMD, Kappboom, Gen Con, Imagine Easy Solutions, Mall Maverick, Ancilla Partners Inc., Animikii Indigenous Technology and MAZ.

Multi-CDN enthousiasts will need to look elsewhere to find additional CDNs as Speedyrails only a single provider, which is EdgeCast.

Deepfield Description

DeepField Networks is a network intelligence company founded in 2011 by Arbor Networks founder Craig Labovitz and Joe Eggleston. Coming out of stealth mode in with their tool in 2012, the company has been running operations from their headquarters in Michigan, United States.

The DeepField Cloud Intelligence monitoring tool allows clients to keep track of their network performance, peering traffic and CDN traffic. Metrics like throughput, traffic volume and latency are visualised in a dashboard.

The Cloud Genome component of Cloud Intelligence maps a variety of Internet services such as sites, cloud stores and CDNs and gives deeper insights into the entire content delivery chain.

Next to performance monitoring and the Cloud Genome tech, DeepField also offers DeepField Defender, a DDoS protection service.

Customers of DeepField are, or have been A10 Networks, Telecom Argentina and Internet2.

While Deepfield’s intelligence includes synthetic monitoring data, we do not know if their platform is suitable for a multi-CDN setup. In addition, as DeepField does not provide a loadbalancing or CDN balancing service, nor CDNs, more is needed to make their data actionable within a multi-CDN solution.
