Viblast is a peer-to-peer or p2p CDN, which means that for the distribution of content they redirect traffic from user to user. This also means that they do not have their own servers to distribute content from. As a result, a p2p CDN functions differently from a regular CDN. The best use case scenarios are larger livestreams, and/or very localized content. For a closer look at how p2p CDNs work please read this article.
Viblast’s PDN or Peer Delivery Network is compatible with both the MPEG-DASH and HLS protocols for streaming your video content, as well as allowing DRM methods like Microsoft Playready, Google Widevine, and Multi-DRM setups. As far as monetization options are concerned, they allow for paywall, donation, data capture, and e-commerce options in collaboration with Inplayer.
The company itself was founded in 2013, and is headquartered in Bulgaria. The company’s co-founders already founded another company, Setelis which provides software development services. Viblast also has multiple partners, inlcuding the before mentioned Inplayer, as well as Axinom, Nimble Streamer, StreamS, Unified Streaming, and Wowza Media Systems. One of their notable customers is Emby, a live online TV provider.
Besides their p2p CDN network, they also have their own integrated video player, which is HTML5 based, and has a flash fallback via video.js for when it is needed.
